It’s difficult to find sparkling wine and champagne, since restaurants mostly serve wines from nearby. Drinks such as gin and tonic and mojito tend to cost around 500-600 lekes. Soft drinks and various kinds of juices cost as much as a small beer. A dinner for two with starters, main course and drinks costs somewhere between 15 euros and 40 euros. City of Sarandë has two major attractions; the Lekuresi Castle and the Monastery of 40 Saints. They are both situated high atop the city. Somehow I never found the time to climb up to them, but I’ve heard that the castle provides a great view into the city. One of the major attractions outside Sarandë city limits is the Blue Eye. It’s said to be a “beautiful oasis with deep blue water”. It’s quite close to Sarandë, on the route to Gjirokastër. The beaches of Sarandë and Himarë have a pebbly floor.
The playing hall and the two official hotels – The Torch and the Grand Heritage, were all located within the Aspire Zone. If you were late and missed the bus, you were not punished! For example, after checking in, you had to choose the kind of pillow you wanted to use from these four options! Much harder than to decide whether to play the King’s Indian or the Grunfeld in the first round! All the players had breakfast as a part of their package. It was more like brunch as some of the items available were like main course dishes. At the same time the spread of fruits was lavish and you had all sorts of nuts to munch on. There were also some delicious pastries and mouth-watering varieties of breads and croissants and different types of cheese. But this variety was not just limited to the hotels in which we were staying.
No crowds, generally good weather and many days when you can swim. There can be periods of cold or rain and even snow in the mountains. But even when it is cold it is not the brutal cold that anyone in the northern US experiences in the winter. The most amazing thing is that everything is green! The dusty archaeological sites that are parched and dry in the summer are alive with grass and wild plants and if you go in March or April, millions of wildflowers. If you want to see the real Greece, including islands that have returned to their quiet winter-ways after the summer tourists have left, and take advantage of low season rates and cheap airfare then winter is the time to go. And as I have written elsewhere Athens is the best city in the world from November to May with more restaurants, music, and shopping than most people get in a lifetime.
Traveling beds for toddlers are easy to fold up and take with you wherever you go, and many are even suitable to pack in your carry-on luggage, so you know that you can take your child’s bed with you with ease. Of course, having a familiar place for your child to sleep is an excellent way to help them settle much quicker without first having to check out whether your hotel has a crib in the room or trying to settle your child in an unfamiliar bed. You can familiarize your child with a children’s travel bed before you start your travels, which will help them settle in much easier while you’re away. Portable toddler beds fold up super-small, so you can easily fit them into your carry-on luggage or the trunk of your car. Toddler travel beds don’t have sides, so your child can quickly get out and roam around if they are particularly active or unsettled.
