Go for it. Change your mind halfway through and decide you’d rather hit a beach club instead of another temple? On one trip, I had this overly ambitious plan to visit three waterfalls in a single day: Sekumpul, Banyumala, and Aling-Aling. Midway through, I was so exhausted I just wanted to chill somewhere quiet. My driver suggested a detour to a serene little cafe overlooking the rice fields in Munduk. It wasn’t on my itinerary, but it turned out to be the highlight of my day. Let’s be real-safety is a big deal, especially when you’re in a foreign country. The great thing about hiring a private driver in Bali is that they know the roads inside and out. They’re familiar with Bali’s driving quirks (like how scooters seem to appear out of nowhere) and can navigate tricky areas like the Bukit Peninsula or the narrow roads in Sidemen without breaking a sweat. Also, most private drivers are affiliated with reputable tour companies or have glowing reviews online.
DSL and cable modems are for broadband Internet access and require special connections. A digital camera if your work requires photos for presentations, reports, a web site, or other documents. While you can also use a regular camera and scanner to get digital photos for documents, you may find the immediate access you get with a digital camera more efficient than waiting for film to be processed and printed. The quality of the digital image is still somewhat better with actually photos that are scanned, but for most business applications digital cameras produce sharp enough images. Images for use in marketing materials may need to be of higher quality. A multi-purpose scanner, fax machine, copier, printer if your space is limited and quality not as critical. Keep in mind with this type of equipment, however, if one part of it stops working you’ll be without the other functions until it can be repaired! For obvious reasons, mainly because equipment in the technology world changes more often than some people change underwear, we’ll not go into the technical specifications for the computer equipment you’ll need in your office.
Mattress toppers cover the mattress and shield it from dirt, while mattress pads are thicker and can help you customize (and extend the life of) the mattress underneath. First, a vocabulary lesson: mattress pads and mattress toppers are indeed similar products, and both fit over the mattress for additional comfort. Mattress pads, such as Quince’s Essential Mattress Pad, are thinner, with the main function of protecting the mattress against stains and dirt. They smooth out the sleep experience with an additional layer of soft comfort. Overall, they add plushness but don’t dramatically alter the surface of the mattress. Mattress toppers on the other hand are often thicker, up to several inches, and these can significantly change the firmness level of a mattress and provide pressure relief. You can use a topper to zhuzh up an aging bed, adding a dose of luxury to your sleep experience without springing for a new mattress.
This way, we are able to compare listings not only in the actual city a space is in but also in other markets with similar characteristics. So if a Japanese host is one of the first Airbnb users to list an apartment in Kyoto, we might look at data from Tokyo or Okayama, back when Airbnb was similarly new in those cities, or from Amsterdam, a more mature market for Airbnb but one with a similar size and level of tourism. Finally, we needed to consider location, a rather different problem for us than for hotels. Hotels are typically grouped in just a few main locations; we have listings in almost every corner of a city. Early versions of our pricing algorithms plotted an expanding circle around a listing, considering similar properties at varying radii from the listing location. This seemed to work well for a while, but we eventually discovered a crucial flaw.
4. Buy things to make the actual travel more pleasant. A decent eye mask, some noise cancelling headphones (Bose QuietComfort 25 are the current gold standard) will help your travel be more restful. 5. Don’t pay extortionate roaming charges. Download offline maps (and TripAdvisor) for your destination. 6. Get or prioritise cards that won’t charge you too much for using them abroad. This saves you dealing with cash. 7. Can you pack everything just in hand luggage? This will get you out the airport quicker which you’ll be grateful for after a long flight. 8. Check sites like SeatGuru to pick good seats on your flight (e.g. with more leg room). Sadly airlines are increasingly charging for good seats but it’s still worth checking out. You booked your travel and now it’s arrived and you have to actually do it. The main thing that causes people pain with long-distance travel is jet-lag.
